8 Days on the Lemosho Route with RYDER Signature This trip took us a year to plan. When people ask how it went, the temptation is to just say "amazing" and leave it there. But a year of planning deserves more than one word.

We came as a family. Kilimanjaro had been sitting on a list for years before someone finally said, right, we are actually doing this. When we committed, we reached out to RYDER Signature, and they handled everything from gear consultation to the full itinerary. Handing that over to them was the right call.

We arrived two days early, which RYDER had built into the plan deliberately. The first day took us to Materuni Waterfalls on the lower slopes. We did a coffee tour through a Chagga community farm, had a traditional Chagga lunch cooked by locals, and there were songs. I cannot overstate how much that afternoon set the tone. It made Kilimanjaro feel like someone's home rather than just a landmark we were passing through.

The second day was the briefing and gear check. Thorough, calm, no drama.

We entered from the west via Lemosho Gate with a full crew, guides, cook, and porters. On the lower slopes, we spotted zebras and giraffe through the vegetation. My kids stopped walking entirely. Nobody had mentioned that was possible on Kilimanjaro.

The eight days matter. You move through five completely different environments as you gain altitude and the pacing gives your body and mind time to adjust. We never felt rushed. The food was genuinely good every evening, hot meals with real variety, and the cook took obvious pride in it.

One evening at camp, our guide Musa sat with us and talked about Maasai warriors. Not a rehearsed speech, an actual conversation where the kids started asking questions and an hour disappeared. He talked about the relationship between the Maasai and the land, what the mountain means to the people who have always lived near it. My children were locked in. That kind of moment you cannot manufacture.

I will be honest: it was hard. You start in the early hours in the dark and cold and just keep moving upward. At some point the altitude is doing something to your legs and your head and you are having a quiet argument with yourself about whether this was a reasonable idea.

And then you are at Uhuru Peak. 5,895 metres. The highest point on the African continent. We stood there together as a family.

I have no elegant way to describe that. We just stood there.

The logistics were flawless. Permits, crew, meals, pacing, all handled before we arrived. But what I remember most is that they made the mountain feel like it belonged to something larger than the climb. The Chagga lunch at Materuni, the coffee farm songs, Musa's stories at camp. Those were not extras. They were the point.

You leave Kilimanjaro understanding it is not just a summit. It is a place with people, culture, and history, and you were a guest in it.

We would do this again without hesitation.

The greatest experience with Kilimanjaro Heroes Advendures!!! My sister and I both had the most incredible experience hiking Mount Kilimanjaro with Kilimanjaro heroes! They were the most affordable company I could find and everything about the trip was perfect, from the trip logistics by Evarist and Laurent, to our amazing guides Mwinyi and Gloria, to our incredible porters (James, Hendry, and Mondonga to name a few), and our chef Salum who made the best food for us each day!! Everyone was so welcoming, kind, and very experienced, so we knew we were in good hands to make it to the top safely! Kilimanjaro Heroes Adventures also organized a coffee tour and waterfall hike the day before our climb, as well as a two day safari after, both of which were awesome (our safari guide Elly was also great). An exceptional climb with the amazing Ahambi Tours I just summitted Mt Kili a few days ago with Ahambi Tours and am so grateful to them! This is my second successful Kili climb. From the beginning to the end my second climb was an absolutely perfect experience all thanks to the phenomenal team at Ahambi. You really couldn’t ask for a better or more experienced climbing support team!! I climbed Mt Kenya with them last August I was so pleased and impressed with them I knew I would not do my second Kili climb with any other team but Ahambi.

I did an 8-day Lemosho climb this time. From the pre-climb preparation with the best ever trip consultant and coordinator Brendah who is most dedicated, patient, organized, kind, responsive, knowledgeable and supportive, to the actual on location logistical support in Arusha and Moshi provided by senior staff Charles who’s absolutely a top notch and most reliable and intelligent professional and a truly interesting person, the whole process was seamless and flawless without a single glitch. All our requests and needs were met!! My friend and I have very different athletic abilities and paces. They gave us not two but three exceptional guides to accommodate our different needs. Even though we have designated guides all three expertly helped and supported both of us along the way.

My designated guide Eldad who helped me with my Mt Kenya climb last August is a true gem of a mountain guide!! Anyone would be really lucky to have him guide them on their climbing adventures. He is so observant, knowledgeable and experienced and he knows my abilities and limitations so well he made the absolute best and most appropriate decisions with my best interest in mind! My main weakness is the summit descent. Without his really great support and smart decisions on how best to help me walk (run!!) down the long stretches of loose and slippery scree I honestly would not be able to descend comfortably or it would have taken me the whole day to go down since I was too nervous. With his help I went down to the camp in a record two hours!! And the ascent took only five hours 40 minutes and I was the fourth climber to summit that day. Nothing short of a miracle all thanks to him.

The other two guides Issac and Alex are top notch guides too. You would not go wrong with either of them. Issac ensured the smooth operations of the wonderful team of porters and the fab chef and they worked closely and efficiently well as a result! He always picked the best spots for our tents which is an important part of making sure we had a good night of rest with the best views at some of the camps. He definitely had the best interests of the climbers and the team in mind. He’s constantly thinking and making decisions around the camps to ensure the climbers are comfortable and the porters are supported. He’s also an experienced and knowledgeable mountain guide. He knows when and where to offer his advice and help on the trails. He’s a well rounded leader to have on the mountain!!

Alex the third guide who also helped me with my summit is just so caring and thoughtful!! He was so proactive and empathetic he knew exactly what I needed before I even knew it myself!! It takes a truly caring person to do what he did. Because it was so cold on the summit, for example, took over my phone and took all the summit photos so I would not have to take my mittens off. And he took truly wonderful photos and some lovely and surprising videos. What a joy to have him along on the summit.

A special shout out to Stephen who accompanied me on both the Mt Kenya and Kili climbs. I view him as a very special and the best climbing buddy. He was most supportive on both climbs and he would walk behind me to make sure I was fine on muddy or slippery rocky terrains especially during descents of any kind!! I felt so safe and protected walking with Stephen. He’s also a wonderful listener and an interesting conversation partner. He truly enriched and enhanced my experiences on the two climbs. I’m very grateful to have known him!!

On this climb we were so lucky to have a really tall cool Lawrence (not to mention he’s also a fabulous singer!!)!! With such limitations cooking on the mountain he created really delicious and versatile meals including handmade pizza, vegetable pies, various soups and stews, and a surprise birthday cake (with frosting and icing!!) for my friend!! We were truly spoiled on the mountain!! I will miss his cooking for a long time.

I must mention the excellent and exceptionally caring team of porters!! They are the true heroes of our climb. I do not know how they were able to carry such heavy loads while climbing up the steep and vertical Barranco Wall!!! They truly care for us and went above and beyond to ensure that we were well taken care of!!! My friend and I appreciated them sooo much and we were so grateful to them (sincere apologies for misspelled names): Adam, Goudi, Fabiano, Juma, Shakaguru, Gaston, Davidy, Joney, Rahim. They are also a truly talented team of singers and dancers!! They did not just sing around the camp, they sang when we descended from the summit (a most memorable heartwarming congratulatory welcome) and when we arrived at the gate at the end of the climb!!

We Didn't Climb Kilimanjaro for the Views The cold hit hardest just after midnight. That's when our group of eight, all the way from the UK, set off from camp for the final push to Uhuru Peak, headtorches cutting through the dark, breath visible in front of us, every step a reminder of how far we'd already come.

We were climbing for a reason bigger than the mountain itself. Our trek was raising funds for Time to Help UK, supporting people living in some of the world's harshest environments, and that purpose sat with us through every tough stretch of the route.

Ryder Signature made sure we were ready long before we landed in Tanzania. Months of pre trek briefings walked us through what each day would feel like, how our bodies would react to altitude, and how the team would handle anything unexpected. By the time we started on the Machame route, we weren't guessing. We knew roughly what was coming, which made it easier to actually enjoy it.

The Barranco Wall is the moment that has stuck with me most. From below it looks almost vertical, a wall of rock that seems impossible to climb with a pack on your back. But step by step, with the team guiding our hands and feet onto the right holds, we made it up. Standing at the top, looking back down at where we'd just come from, was one of those rare moments where you feel your own effort completely.

Summit night was where Ryder Signature's planning really paid off. Rather than starting from Barafu Camp itself, we stayed at a camp positioned higher up, which shortened the brutal midnight push to the top. It meant less time exposed to the worst of the cold and altitude during the hardest hours, and made the difference between a summit night that breaks you and one you can actually get through with something left in the tank.

The team around us was exceptional throughout. Alex, our lead guide, carried himself with the quiet authority of someone who has walked this mountain more times than he can count, calm, watchful, and always one step ahead of any problem. Our waiter took care of us like a private butler, making sure every meal arrived hot and on time even at altitudes where boiling water takes twice as long. The porters and cooks worked in the background with a quiet efficiency that we only fully appreciated once we realised how much was being done for us without us ever noticing the effort.

Seven days on the Machame route gave us a summit, a wall we conquered, and a team that made the impossible feel achievable. For anyone considering Kilimanjaro, especially for a cause that matters, I cannot recommend Ryder Signature highly enough.

Majestic and breathtaking! Climbing the highest mountain in Africa had been a major goal on my bucket list for a decade. Finally, I triumphed! A Birthday Trek on Kilimanjaro with RYDER Signature My father turned 55 on the summit of Kilimanjaro. That sentence still feels extraordinary to write.

We chose RYDER Signature to arrange the climb because we wanted more than logistics. We wanted someone who understood what this mountain means. From the first planning call, it was clear they did.

The route was the eight-day Lemosho, and that extra time on the mountain makes an enormous difference. We entered through the Londorossi Gate and spent the first two days moving through dense montane forest, the kind that feels ancient and undisturbed. Colobus monkeys watched us from the canopy. The air smelled of moss and wet earth. By the time we climbed out onto the Shira Plateau on day three, the landscape had transformed completely into open moorland stretching toward a volcanic sky. The scale of it is difficult to explain to someone who has not stood there.

Our trek leader was Jona Mollel, and he set the tone for everything that followed. He was calm, precise, and deeply knowledgeable about every kilometre of the route. He watched each member of the group without appearing to watch, adjusting the pace before anyone thought to ask, reading altitude symptoms before they became problems. On the approach to Lava Tower at roughly 4,600 metres, where the mountain tests you for the first time, Jona was already three steps ahead of what the group needed. Pole pole was not just a phrase he used. It was a philosophy he enforced with quiet authority. We trusted him completely by the end of day two, and that trust only deepened.

The Barranco Wall on day five was the moment the mountain demanded something real from everyone. It is a near-vertical scramble of several hundred metres, and it requires hands and feet and full attention. Jona positioned the team perfectly and moved between us on the rock with the ease of someone for whom this is simply a Tuesday morning. When we reached the top and turned to see the route we had just climbed, and the glacier above us, and the plains of Tanzania four kilometres below, we stood in silence for a long time.

Camp life was better than we had any right to expect at altitude. Our chef, Godson, produced meals that should not have been possible on the side of a mountain. Soup at lunch stops, three-course dinners in the mess tent, fresh popcorn that appeared from nowhere in the late afternoons. Our waiter, Mathayo, served every meal with a warmth and care that made the dining tent feel like a place of genuine comfort after hard days on the trail. On the night before summit push, when nerves were high and appetites were low, Mathayo brought food quietly and without fuss, staying attentive without hovering. Small things at 4,600 metres feel significant.

Summit night began at midnight from Barafu Camp. The cold above Stella Point was the most serious cold I have experienced. Wind, ice underfoot, headlamps moving slowly in a long chain up the crater rim. My father walked steadily the entire way. He did not complain. He did not stop.

When we reached Uhuru Peak as the sky began to lighten, RYDER Signature had arranged for the mountain crew to produce a birthday cake. I still do not fully understand the logistics of that. The guides gathered around my father at 5,895 metres above sea level and sang to him as the sun rose over the clouds below. He cried. We all cried. Jona, who has stood on that summit more than four hundred times, told my father he was one of the best clients he had ever guided.

That is the kind of thing a man carries with him for the rest of his life.

RYDER Signature arranged something that went far beyond a successful climb. They gave my father a moment he will never forget, on a mountain that earned it.

A Meaningful 7 Day Machame Route Experience with Girls Adventures Tanzania Climbing the highest point of Africa with my family ( my wife, our 15 year old daughter and I ) felt like more than just a trek. Amazing experience. My wife and I recently returned from a trip to Africa so I figured I would give a detailed review using Mar Tours for our Kilimanjaro trek. My wife did most of the research and wanted to make sure she chose a local guide company rather than some big commercial outfit.

- Overall the experience was 10/10. We couldn’t have been happier. Below are some bullet point items we scored.

- We’re both 38 and live in Denver so we do have experience hiking up to 14,000 ft. prior to climbing Kilimanjaro. We’re both in pretty good shape as we run and hike often.

Communication: 10/10.

- Job was extremely responsive and was there to greet us before and after our hike and safari. He answered all questions ahead of time prior to us flying to Africa in a timely fashion as well. You can just tell that he really cared that we felt safe, comfortable and happy throughout our 2 weeks.

Hike: 10/10.

- Amazing team that we worked with. As for the climb, everything was so well organized. The crew was so supportive and kind. The food made by our cook (mama) was honestly delicious and we were impressed by the diversity and quality of the meals, considering the environment! Mama even baked a cake for my birthday, which was such a nice touch and made everything so special. Our guides made sure we were healthy and acclimated to the altitude, taking our vital signs two times a day. It is also important to mention that every member of the crew was well dressed, which was not the case for all the companies we saw on the climb. Random Tips:

- We brought a role of dog poop bags to use as garbage bags in our tent and that worked extremely well with all the body wipes and snack wrappers.

- Electrolyte packs work will to use in water bottles to mix up just having water.

- Drink plenty of Ginger tea if you feel nauseous.

- Bring a good book and deck of cards with all the down time.

- Our camelback hoses froze but we made sure to bring extra water bottles to fix during summit night.

- Ear plugs and eye masks are nice to have as some of the camps people do stay up fairly late and when resting during the day for summit night it was nice to use an eye mask or a black buff to put over your eyes.

- Having some extra carabiners was nice to attach stuff to the outside of our daypacks to dry while hiking as we got rained on during all of day 1.

- Purpose some sleeping bag liners. Bought on ail express well in advance for like $4 a piece I think.

- Bring 1-2 quick dry towels to use a camp.

Our Women-Led Kilimanjaro Experience with Girls Adventures Tanzania We travelled in early January as a group of six girls from the UK to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with Girls Adventures Tanzania, and from the very first message, Aika Nkya ( founder ) made everything feel easy and clear. She was always quick to reply, patient with all our questions, and helped us plan every step without stress. She suggested we take the Umbwe Route since we asked for something more challenging, and it really was—steep, quiet, and intense, but also incredibly beautiful and rewarding.

Her advice to rent some of our gear locally also turned out to be a great decision and made things much simpler for us.

On the mountain, the team was just amazing. The guides, porters, and cooks worked so well together, and you could feel the strong sense of teamwork every day. They kept the mood positive even when things got tough, and that made a big difference. The food was better than we expected, warm and filling, and the tents were comfortable enough to rest properly after long days. There were a few moments where some of us struggled with the altitude and felt quite unwell, but the guides handled it so calmly and quickly. They kept checking on us, adjusted things where needed, and made sure everyone was safe, which really reassured us.

Before and after the climb, we stayed at Shose Farm Lodge, which was peaceful and just what we needed to relax. Looking back, the whole experience felt very genuine and well cared for, not just a trip but something more personal.
